Extended School Year - ESY

Extended School Year (ESY) services are special education and related services that are provided to a student with a disability beyond the regular school year in accordance with his/her IEP. The need for ESY services must be determined annually on an individual basis by the Individual Education Program (IEP) team.
 
ESY is not Summer Camp or Summer School!

DETAILS

Dates: Wednesday, July 5th - Thursday, August 3rd (Mon.-Thurs.)
*There is no ESY program on Tuesday, July 4th
Time: 9:00AM - 1:00PM
Transportation: Transportation is provided (If your address has changed, please provide updated address to ensure proper pick-up)
Meals: School breakfast and lunch will be provided (allow your child to pack a lunch if they would prefer a different meal)
Attire: Students are not required to wear uniform. However, appropriate clothing is required (air conditioning may cause students to get cold. Please dress accordingly. No slides or open-toes shoes)
Format: Full attendance, Mon-Thurs at Richard Allen Prep Charter School.
 - All lessons will be in-person
 - Students will complete some assignments on paper and some online
 - Subjects covered: Literacy and Math Foundational Skills, Transition and Social Skills
 - Reports will be emailed/sent home to parents regarding weekly progress. (ensure an updated email address   is on file)
 
Any student who received Speech and Language, Counseling and/or Occupational Therapy during the 2022-2023 school year or were recently diagnosed, will be provided these services during ESY.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Literary: This year we will be utilizing our Sporis Language Literacy curriculum for Literacy instruction during ESY. Students will have whole group instruction, work with partners, and work independently in their notebooks. Additionally, students will be working on skills directly related to their IEP goals.
 
Math: Students will be working in groups on foundational skills, practicing emerging math skills for their grade level in the upcoming school year, and working on skills directly related to their IEP goals. Ascend Math Program

Transition/Social Skills: Students will be learning basic everyday skills, such as when to say please and thank you, personal space, healthy relationships, facial expressions and body language. They'll learn how to communicate about their emotions and when a break is needed.

 

GOOGLE CLASSROOM

Please accept the invitations to each of the 3 Google Classrooms that will be utilized for ESY. This will allow you to stay up-to-date on your child's lessons and assignments.
